Ask what is actually included
Get the deliverables in writing: calls, video review, profile work, coach communication, event recommendations, school lists, junior/prep guidance, and follow-up timing.
Ask who they contact and why
A credible answer should name the type of programs or levels, not promise secret access. Ask how they decide which coaches, schools, teams, or leagues are realistic for your player.
Ask about fit, not just exposure
The advisor should explain current level, role, trajectory, academics, geography, budget, and what would make the path stronger before pushing paid events.
Ask about conflicts and referral fees
Parents should know whether the advisor gets paid by camps, showcases, schools, programs, video services, or tournament operators they recommend.
Ask what happens if the answer is no
A useful advisor should be willing to say a spend is not worth it, a target level is unrealistic right now, or a cheaper next step is better.
